| These
gun cases are reproductions of cases that were manufactured
by Colt contract suppliers in the 1850's, 60's and 70's. The dimensions
of the cases, the mahogany wood, and the oil finish, are all copied from
cases that I have researched over the past 3 years. I have also
duplicated the lock, hinges, lock plate, and even the style of inletting
(I have left out the scribe marks at the hinges, but can add them if you
desire an exact copy). Cloth colors are a match of the original
Colt colors. You will also see a
reproduction of the instruction label that Colt placed in each of its
cases. The overall construction of the case is better than the originals
(with a pine veneer plywood bottom instead of the scrap pine used in the
1800's). Original cases of this type run in the $1000-$1500 range in fair
condition, if you can find them at all. These are a high quality
alternative. I also make cases for other guns of the period on a special
order basis.
